Letters is the soundtrack for a short film directed by Shuhei Harada, a friend of mine since we were teenagers. The film follows a woman who writes letters to her deceased mother.
It is set in Tokyo and Nasu shortly after the pandemic and features a single character. There is no dialogue, and the images unfold through an internal monologue.
With the music, I wanted to reflect the landscapes she sees and her inner voice, sometimes letting it feel strange and sometimes almost comical. It allowed me to approach the score in a very experimental way.
